An interesting campaign on net neutrality is going on this Friday

SaveTheInternet.com advocates will be visiting all 100 local branches of their state Senators’ offices and drop off petitions with 50,000 signatures, asking Senators to make a televised statement about their position on the Net Neutrality issue.

Senate Blows net neutrality opportunity.

Hey, I thought the Republicans were for American business. The Europeans have taken strong stands to protect the benefits of the internet. Do they understand traditional American principles better than the republican Senate? Seems like it.

Net Neutrality: The Mainstream’s still unconscious: I bet that includes you.

A portion of an article Posted by Mitch Ratcliffe on ZDnet blog
The newspaper of record in our nation’s capital, The Washington Post, correctly observes that the rhetoric around net neutrality “has concealed more than it has illuminated.” However the reporter, Jeffrey Birnbaum, parrots elements of the carrier’s arguments in his column, “No Neutral Ground in This Internet Battle.” He fails to provide both sides of the argument in full, suggesting repeatedly that the carriers’ are the aggreived parties. Saying “goodbye” to the Net

From ZD Net: Here is part of the article: Click here for the full posting.

The Senate Commerce Committee, splitting 11 to 11 and therefore rejecting compromise language, set the stage for a carrier-controlled Internet. If the bill passes the Senate and is signed by the President, you can kiss the Net you know “goodbye.” Farewell, open networks and open standards. Soon every packet will be subject to inspection and surcharges based on what it carries and who sent it or where it is going.

Believe it or not this affects your mortgage and real estate.

You better speak out or people like you and me could be road kill.

So you shop for homes on line? You shop for cars on line? You shop for a good deal online? Good deals may be headed out. The main reason the internet has served the consumer well is that it allows room for startups and small fry. Hey, I work out of my studio apartment above my garage. LJ works from home and Starbucks, soon a small office pool office. LJ drinks Hot Chocolate.

You have seen the ads depicting the little guy competing against the GIANT company successfully on line. Well, that may go its way some day, the little guy is headed to become road kill. So then is the competion that brings you lower prices.

Congress is steadily bowing to the pressures of the BIG telcoms and utilities to make the internet a piece of cake for the big boys and impossible for startups to survive. Click here to get a taste. I will start providing more content on this subject under the category of Naked and Road Kill.
